Diploma in Ceramics

This daytime diploma course is designed to give you the basic ceramic techniques, craftmanship and design skills that will help you prepare for higher studies, develop your artistic expression or simply provide you with new energy in your daily life! Maybe you want to lay the foundation to a completely new line of work or spice up your curriculum or portfolio with fresh qualifications.

The course includes both practical och theoretical elements and is set up in project form, which means you will see your project through from sketch to finished product. You will learn the basic techniques of handbuilding (such as pinching, slab construction and coil construction), wheel throwing and surface decoration. We will also guide you through the different techniques of glazing, which is an art in itself and can provide you with very different results. You will also be given practical knowledge of materials, tools and machines. During the course you will have the opportunity to make a process project, which will be the foundation of your own ceramic design. Lectures on ceramic objects as utility articles and as works of art will be included in the course.

The course merges theory and practice, but the main emphasis lies on the practical elements. Teaching takes place in groups, with individual guidance and supervision of the progress of each student.

The first two weeks of the course include two course days, Tuesdays and Saturdays hrs 9.00-15.15. After that there will be only one course day a week, every Tuesday hrs 9.00-15.15. In total the course consists of 14 course days in 12 weeks.

No prior knowledge or experience is required.

Lisa Andersson has a Master’s degree in Ceramic Arts from HDK (Academy of Design and Crafts). Lisa is working at her own studio/workshop and has had several exhibitions.

Course material is not included in the course fee. The cost for clay and glaze will be added. All the tools needed in the course are available in our ceramic workshop.

Before course start you will receive a letter with more detailed material information.
