General Terms and Conditions for Courses at Medborgarskolan

The following general terms and conditions apply to your registration and participation in a course/study circle (referred to as "course") at Medborgarskolan.

Special conditions apply to our diploma programs.

Participants under 18 years old

If the participant is under 18 years old, a parent or legal guardian must register on behalf of the minor. The parent or legal guardian becomes the contractual party with us, and the minor is identified as the participant in the course utilizing Medborgarskolan's services. Confirmation, invoice, and course-specific information are sent to the parent or legal guardian who made the registration, and course-specific information and confirmation are also sent directly to the minor.

Course-specific information and course coordinator

Details about the region responsible for the course, description of the specific course, course fees, any additional fees or costs, payment terms, and any special conditions are available on our website www.medborgarskolan.se, as well as in the course-specific information you receive during your registration or along with your invitation.

Confirmation

After registration, and if there is space available in the course, you will receive a confirmation via email. If you do not have an email, the confirmation will be sent by regular mail. The confirmation is sent on the first working day after you have made your registration. Once you have received the confirmation, a binding agreement for the course is established, and the right of withdrawal begins as described below.

Waiting list registration is not binding.

Course start, course-specific information, and invitation

The course start date is preliminarily indicated in Medborgarskolan's course offering. Before the course/study circle starts, you will receive an invoice, which also includes an invitation with details about the course location, start date, and times for the course sessions. The invitation is sent via email or regular mail.

Course fee and payment

The course fee for each course is specified in the course offering at www.medborgarskolan.se and in the confirmation. You can choose to pay the course fee with a credit card, Swish, Nets/Riverty invoice, Apple Pay, or Medborgarskolan invoice. As an individual, you can opt for installment payments by selecting Nets/Riverty invoice as the payment method. You decide how you want to make installment payments: at your own pace or with fixed installments over 3, 6, 12, 24, or 36 months.

Medborgarskolan invoice terms

Unless stated otherwise on the invoice, payment must be made within thirty (30) days of receiving the invoice. In case of non-payment or delayed payment, a reminder fee of sixty (60) SEK is charged, and we have the right to charge default interest at the reference rate plus eight (8) percent.

If necessary, the course fee can be paid in installments. Please contact us if you wish to arrange installment payments.

Human Finans

In collaboration with Human Finans, we offer favorable credits. Visit www.humanfinans.se and follow the instructions. This applies only to courses within Medborgarskolan Stockholm.

Canceled course or changed times

If we are forced to cancel a course before it starts, you always have the right to receive a refund of the course fee you have paid. This applies, for example, if we need to cancel a course with too few registered participants. The same applies if we are forced to change the times of the course sessions in a way that prevents you from participating. Medborgarskolan reserves the right to make necessary changes, such as changing instructors or locations.

Force majeure

If we have to cancel a course or change a course arrangement for reasons beyond our control ("force majeure"), you do not have the right to a refund for the course you have registered for. These reasons may include natural disasters, fires, strikes, pandemics, severe spread of infection, and similar events that we could not reasonably foresee. If we need to make changes to the course arrangement, we will inform you accordingly, or you will receive information about when the course is planned to be held next. If the course is canceled due to force majeure well in advance, you may still be entitled to a refund. Always contact us if you have questions.

Right of withdrawal according to the Distance and Off-Premises Contracts Act, 2005:59 ("DaL")

You have the opportunity to withdraw your course registration within 14 days from the day you received your confirmation (the withdrawal period).

If you withdraw during the withdrawal period, we will refund the course fee we have received from you. Any unpaid part of the course fee will be credited (if an invoice has been sent or if payment has been made by card via the website) or not invoiced (if no invoice has been sent), except for any already completed parts of the course.

If the course starts during the withdrawal period, we request that you provide a specific consent for the course to start during the withdrawal period, and that your right of withdrawal does not apply to a course completed during the withdrawal period. Your consent also means that you request the course to start during the withdrawal period. Thus, we have the right to retain a proportional part of the participant fee corresponding to completed parts of the course if you exercise your right of withdrawal before the course is completed.

The right of withdrawal does not apply to on-site course bookings in our premises.

If you wish to exercise your right of withdrawal, you must notify us in a clear and explicit manner before the withdrawal period expires. You can provide such notice by using the Consumer Agency's standard form or by contacting us directly.

If the right of withdrawal is exercised, other agreements related to the course that you have signed will automatically and without cost revert. You are responsible for informing other companies about the exercise of the right of withdrawal and that the related agreement no longer applies.

The right of withdrawal does not apply to leisure activities and cultural events such as concerts, lectures, or similar events taking place on a specific day or during a specific period, where we would be disproportionately economically affected by applying the right of withdrawal. When the right of withdrawal does not apply, this is specifically indicated in our information about the activity.

Withdrawal of registration after the withdrawal period

After the withdrawal period has expired, you can no longer exercise your right of withdrawal.

With a permanent study impediment

If the reason for withdrawing your registration or interrupting an ongoing course is a permanent study impediment, such as your own or a close relative's illness supported by a medical certificate, fire in your own home, or other comparable reasons unforeseen by you, we will refund the participant fee for the not yet utilized parts of the course. Normally, costs for study materials are not refunded.

Without a permanent study impediment

If you withdraw your registration after the expiration of the withdrawal right without a permanent study impediment, we may charge an administrative fee equivalent to the costs we cannot avoid due to your withdrawal, and if the course has started, you are normally obligated to pay the full fee.

If you withdraw your registration no later than 7 days before the start, you normally pay an administrative fee of 10% of the fee, but at least 100 SEK. If you withdraw later than 7 days before the start but before the start date, the administrative fee is half of the participant fee. If you cancel a course that has started, you are normally obligated to pay the entire participant fee.

Exceptions to the above can be made based on each individual case, and if, for example, we can fill your spot with another participant, you normally do not need to pay anything except an administrative fee of 100 SEK. We always strive to limit our costs as much as possible in case of cancellations, thus minimizing the fee we are entitled to request from you as mentioned above.

Cancellation of the course is done by contacting us.

Other absences

If you are absent from any course session for reasons other than those mentioned above, that session is considered consumed. Therefore, you cannot make up for that session later during the course or receive financial compensation for the session you missed.

Study time and study materials

From our course-specific information and your confirmation, you can see the duration of each course and the number of course sessions it includes. The length of the course can be specified in the number of study hours, and if so, each study hour is 45 minutes.

The required study materials and course literature are specified in our course-specific information and your confirmation. The cost of study materials and course literature is not normally included in the course fee, and materials are usually not provided by Medborgarskolan.

Complaint

If you believe that the course does not meet the promised standards, you can file a complaint using the form on this page. In case of a complaint, Medborgarskolan applies the rules on defects in service as stated in the Consumer Services Act, 1985:716 (KTjL).

If we do not reach an agreement, you can turn to the National Board for Consumer Complaints (ARN) via www.arn.se or by mail to: The National Board for Consumer Complaints, Box 174, 101 23 Stockholm. We will follow ARN's decision.

You can learn more about your rights on the Consumer Agency's website www.konsumentverket.se.

Contact information, information, and messages

You can find contact information for your local office here. This is where you should turn if you have any questions, complaints, or if you want to cancel your course registration.

Medborgarskolan sends information and messages to you via email to the email address you provide to us. If you have not provided an email address, information or messages may be sent by mail to the address you have provided. If your contact information changes, you should inform us.

Accident insurance

As a participant, you are insured for accidents on the way to and from, as well as during, the ongoing course. Read more here.

Processing of personal data

The privacy of our participants is important to Medborgarskolan. Therefore, we have established a privacy policy that describes how we collect, use, transfer, and store personal data. The privacy policy is part of these general terms and conditions and contains Medborgarskolan's complete rules for the processing of personal data. The latest version of the privacy policy is always available here. Privacy Policy.

If for any reason you cannot provide your social security number, please contact the organizer of the course/study circle or event.

Changes to General Terms and Conditions

Medborgarskolan has the right to change these General Terms and Conditions.

Transfer of the agreement

You may not wholly or partially transfer or pledge your rights and/or obligations under the agreement without the written approval of Medborgarskolan. This means, for example, that you cannot sell or give away your course spot to someone else without our approval.

Copyright and marketing

Much of what course participants create during the course, such as texts and artistic material, alone or together with others, is covered by copyright. Each course participant obtains copyright for what they have created.

By entering into the agreement, you grant Medborgarskolan perpetual rights, without special compensation, to use copyrighted material belonging to you in marketing and informational contexts, regardless of media or format.

Dispute

If a dispute arises about the agreement between you and Medborgarskolan, the parties should first try to reach an agreement. If we cannot agree, the dispute shall be decided by a general court with the Stockholm District Court as the first instance.
