This hands-on workshop allows the participants to make their own paints from pigments and binders. They learn the basis of how to identify a range of pigments and binders, and techniques of mixing them.
As the main outcome the participants will individually or in group produce an artwork using paints they themselves select and mix.
Day 1
● Introduction of participants and workshop leader
● Outline of the workshop content and aims
● Presentation of materials and painting surfaces. What are colour pigments? Let’s look at different examples.
● Demonstration: application on surfaces, participants test different pigments
● Guest presentation (TBC)
Day 2
● Group brainstorming about artworks to be produced
● Selecting materials, and surfaces for artwork
● Mixing paints and start on making artwork
Day 3
● Working on and finalising the artwork(s)
● Assessment and discussion of the results
The participants are asked to wear clothes that can get dirty
Surgical gloves for mixing paints

Painting surfaces (paper, canvas, mdf, wood, fabric)

Projector and projection surface for the powerpoint presentation.

The workshop participants should have interest in painting and/or pigment application. It is desirable for the participants to have practiced art minimally on a part time / hobby level. The course is in English. In the duration of the course active engagement in the course activities is expected.
Alice Máselníková is a visual artist based in Småland. Her paintings bear traces of classical inspiration with references to medieval art and symbolism connected to flowers, plants and trees. She is the artistic director of the art fair Supermarket, acting curator of Halmstads Konsthall, co-founder of Artist-Run Network Europe and founder of the artist-run platform Flat Octopus.
