Föreläsningen

Paleis Soestdijk was purchased by Prince William III in 1674 and initially served as a hunting lodge. After the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, the heir to the throne, William (II), acquired the palace and expanded it, using it as a summer residence for a few months each year. Following her marriage to Prince Bernhard in 1937, Princess (later Queen) Juliana made Paleis Soestdijk her permanent home; the couple lived there until they both passed away in 2004. In this presentation, Koos Jipping recounts the history of the palace, illustrating the story with various images.

Föreläsaren

Koos Jipping was born and lives in the north east of the Netherlands close to the German border. From young age already interested in royal history due to the royal magazines at home and the Sissi films seen in TV every Christmas. Thanks to the many books in German and English and visiting many castles in Germany, Austria and Czech Republic, interest shifted to European royal families and their genealogies. As a member of the Oranje-Nassau Historical Society and thanks to Royal Gatherings, friendships were formed to share the hobby.
