Om arrangemanget
This lecture explores the fascinating life of Empress Elizabeth I, one of the most charismatic and influential rulers of 18-th century Russia. We will look at her path to the throne, including the dramatic coup that brought her to power, and the political circumstances that shaped her reign. Special attention will be given to Elizabeth’s relationships with the two most important men in her personal life – Alexei Razumovsky and Ivan Shuvalov – and the roles they played in politics, culture, and the imperial court. Beyond court life, we will examine the architectural splendour of the period, and the remarkable flourishing of science, education, and the arts during Elizabeth’s reign. Her support led to the founding of the Academy of Arts and Moscow University, institutions that became cornerstones of Russian intellectual and cultural life.
