See Art Through New Eyes – The Italian Renaissance is an inspiring course on Italian Renaissance art for those who want to discover more than just the most famous masterpieces. Here, you will encounter Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael as people — with rivalries, ambitions, quirks, and fascinating life stories — while also receiving a vivid introduction to the era that shaped their art.

The course combines storytelling, image analysis, and discussion with simple creative elements, with a focus on sparking curiosity rather than memorizing dates. No prior knowledge is required — just an interest in art, culture, and Italy. This is a course for anyone who wants to see art through new eyes and get closer to the stories behind the images.

Course Content

This is an online course for anyone who is curious and wants an inspiring introduction to Italian Renaissance art, where you will get to know the most famous artists of the period, their works, and the stories that shaped the era. The course combines art history with image analysis, discussion, and simple creative activities.

You will, among other things, learn about:

• the rise of the Renaissance in Italy
• Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael
• famous works and lesser-known stories
• the artists’ lives, rivalries, and historical context
• image analysis and new ways of experiencing art
• creative exercises

Course Format

The course is taught in English. The course leader is multilingual and also speaks Italian and Swedish.

This is an online live course delivered via Zoom in real time.

The course takes place one weekend, comprising 9 lesson hours, on the same time on friday, saturday and sunday.

Each session consists of 3 x 45 minutes.

The course is conducted live on Zoom, and you will be assigned a place on our learning platform, Learnify.

Any additional holidays or breaks will be decided in consultation between the course leader and the participants.

After the course has ended, we offer participants the opportunity to book a place in an upcoming continuation course.

Prior Knowledge

The course is suitable for participants with an English proficiency level of A2–C1. No prior knowledge of art is required — just a curious mind.

Course Leader

Medborgarskolan’s course leaders share their subject knowledge in an inspiring and engaging way. They continuously develop their skills through Medborgarskolan’s continuing education programme in adult pedagogy.

Course literature is included in the course fee. During the course, we will work with materials prepared by the course leader.

Folkbildning

The fundamental idea of popular adult education ( Folkbildning) is that participants learn from one another in collaboration with the course leader. The working methods are democratic and engaging, and learning is active. Participants seek out and build their own knowledge through dialogue, interaction, and reflection with others. Through good communication, the course leader is able to adapt the course together with the participants as it progresses.

Se på konst med nya ögon – italiensk renässans är en inspirerande kurs om italiensk renässanskonst för dig som vill upptäcka mer än bara de mest kända mästerverken. Här möter du Leonardo, Michelangelo och Rafael som människor – med rivaliteter, drivkrafter, egenheter och fascinerande livsöden – samtidigt som du får en levande introduktion till den tid som formade deras konst.

Kursen kombinerar berättelser, bildanalys och samtal med enkla kreativa inslag, och fokus ligger på att väcka nyfikenhet snarare än att memorera årtal. Du behöver inga förkunskaper – bara ett intresse för konst, kultur och Italien. Det här är en kurs för dig som vill se på konst med nya ögon och komma närmare berättelserna bakom bilderna.

Innehåll

En distanskurs för dig som nyfiken och vill ha en inspirerande introduktion till italiensk renässanskonst där du får lära känna epokens mest kända konstnärer, deras verk och de berättelser som formade tiden. Kursen varvar konsthistoria med bildanalys, samtal och enkla kreativa inslag.

Du kommer bl.a. lära dig:

• renässansens framväxt i Italien
• Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo och Rafael
• kända verk och mindre kända berättelser
• konstnärernas liv, rivaliteter och samtid
• bildanalys och nya sätt att uppleva konst
• kreativa övningar

Upplägg

Kursen ges på engelska. Kursledaren är flerspråkig och talar även italienska och svenska.

Kursen äger rum under en helg och omfattar 9 lektionstimmar, vid samma tid på fredag, lördag och söndag. Varje kurstillfälle består av 3 × 45 minuter.

Kursen genomförs på Zoom i realtid och du kommer tilldelas en plats i vår lärplattform Learnify.

Eventuella andra lov eller uppehåll bestäms i samråd mellan ledare och deltagare.

Efter avslutad kurs erbjuder vi möjlighet att boka plats på kommande fortsättningskurs. 

Förkunskaper

Kursen passar deltagare med engelskkunskaper på nivå A2–C1. Inga förkunskaper i konst krävs — bara ett nyfiket sinne.

Kursledare

Medborgarskolans ledare delar med sig av sina ämneskunskaper på ett inspirerande och engagerande sätt. De vidareutvecklar kontinuerligt sin förmåga genom Medborgarskolans fortbildningsprogram inom vuxenpedagogik.

Kursmaterial

Kurslitteratur ingår i kursavgiften. I kursen kommer vi arbeta med av ledaren framtaget material.

Kallelse/faktura

Folkbildning

Grundtanken med folkbildning är att deltagarna i samverkan med kursledaren lär av varandra. Arbetsformerna är demokratiska och engagerande och lärandet aktivt. Deltagarna söker och bygger sin egen kunskap genom dialog, interaktion och reflektion med andra. Genom bra kommunikation har kursledaren möjlighet att anpassa kursen tillsammans med deltagarna under kursens gång.
